Sometimes, life gets really busy and full of things we want or think we need. It’s easy to forget what’s really important. I want to share a story about a trip I took to Kenya and Uganda that changed how I see faith and showed me how simple things can bring healing and peace. This story isn’t just about believing in something bigger; it’s about finding what’s truly valuable in our busy lives.
When I came back from my trip to Kenya and Uganda, my faith had changed a lot. I met people in Uganda who woke up early every morning, at 5:00 am, to pray. Many walked a long way to join others in prayer. They trusted God to give them food and water, even when it hadn’t rained in eight months. One young girl, only 12 years old, had lost her parents and was looking after her little brothers and sisters. She prayed for protection and help. Her courage and faith really made me think. I realized that faith is about more than just asking for small things; it’s about hoping and believing in bigger things.
When I got home, I found my mom struggling with a bad back problem. She had been dealing with it for years and was even talking about surgery. I went to see her. She was lying in bed, so I sat with her and told her all about my adventures – like how my plane had a scary moment, how my name was called at a big airport, and how I got stuck in Africa. Telling these stories made me feel brave and full of faith.

I wanted to help my mom with her back pain. I asked her to turn over, and I put my hand on the sore spot. I wasn’t sure if I could help, but I believed it was worth trying. I prayed for her, not with fancy words but with a simple hope that she would feel better.
Suddenly, something amazing happened. During the prayer, my hand felt warm, and my mom got up from the bed. She stretched and touched the floor with her hands. It was a miracle – something really hard to believe, but it happened! We were so happy and thankful. We praised and thanked God for this wonderful moment.
My mom lived another 15 years without needing back surgery. When she passed away in 2015, I remembered this miracle and felt thankful for those extra years without pain.
Before we move on to our closing statement, let’s reflect on a few thoughtful questions:
- How often do we forget that simple things can make a big difference in healing and comfort?
- How can we use trust and patience, which are important in faith, to make our everyday life better?
- Could letting go of too many material things help us find deeper healing for our minds and hearts?
This trip wasn’t just about traveling to a new place. It was a journey to understand faith, simplicity, and healing in a deeper way. It shows us that in our busy lives, filled with things we chase after, real joy and healing often come from simple acts of faith and kindness. Just like a room that’s too full of stuff, our lives can benefit from getting rid of things we don’t need. This helps us focus on what really brings healing and happiness to our hearts.
