A son will surely outgrow his mother’s lap. But he will never outgrow his place in her heart.

When Nancy decided to turn her third bedroom into a Coffee Lounge, she had no idea what she would find. The room had become a junk room packed with goods–laundry, books, art, supplies, an old air conditioner, and a journey back in time to her son’s childhood.
Her son was a bright child. His love for music and the arts began in kindergarten. He was naturally gifted and he used his skill for drawing throughout the tapestry of his young life.
“There’s so much junk in this room. It’s mostly my husband’s stuff. He’s always giving things away…Ghana, Thrift stores, students.” You’re gonna need to talk to him first.
After a She Orders inquiry and almost painless investigation, I got clarity on how to move forward. Note, I did find plenty of Nancy’s things in the room as well. Lol!!
Finally, I’m alone. My second favorite time to work with a client–P3. Prayer! Purge! Prepare!
- Prayer is when I get clarity and confirmation from my BIG Boss! Prayer provides direction for my goal and game plan. I ask for peace with the client and our process.
- Purge is where I really help my clients. They have stuff they just don’t need anymore. I’m more objective and have no emotional attachment to those things. Many items may still be useful and are donated to their favorite charity or community center. We’ve agreed some items are old, damaged, or junk. Those things go straight to the trash.
- Prepare is when the room is transformed. The cluttered or disorganized space becomes a place of order and functionality. The client smiles! It happens every time.
When Nancy stood outside the closed door, waiting for the Coffee Lounge reveal, she had no idea what she would see. Below are selected pieces of her beloved son’s artwork.
Her only child is now a college graduate and 2,000 miles from home.
Underneath all of that junk, there were choice treasures and priceless gems.
“This is awesome! These were in here?! I forgot all about ’em! I love it, I love them!” She held back her tears. Joy was mixed with nostalgia for a moment–reliving the last 20 years. Thinking back to a time not necessarily simpler, just simply time with the son who’d stolen her heart.
